Pen Scoring 

St David’s Game Bird Services, alongside several supportive organisations and businesses in the game sector are pleased to announce the introduction of a new veterinary supported Pen Scoring System in Summer 2021. This new initiative will enable us to better assess the suitability of pens for the birds and identify areas for improvement in a consistent way.

This is a great step forward as we move towards a self-regulated industry and St David’s is proud to be a part of its development in order to ensure the welfare and health of the birds in our care, whilst supporting our clients to protect the future success of their business.

The matrix, and Pen Scoring visits, cover all aspects of a release site including: feeders and drinkers, roosting areas, areas of cover, open space, pen conditions, wet areas, pen perimeter, birds from different sources and release protocols and plans.
