Alan Beynon qualified from the Royal Dick Veterinary College in Edinburgh in 1988 and immediately started work in the Farm Practice of St David’s in Exeter.
His interest then was in cattle medicine and Preventive Health and soon left in 1990 to become the Veterinary Officer for the Scottish Milk Marketing Board in Perth.
Weather and women drew him back to Devon in 1992 and he then became a Partner in 1993.
Alan became interested in the poultry side of the Practice and especially in game bird medicine and started the Game Division in 1999.
The Practice has developed a holistic preventive approach to disease within the Game Industry and much effort is placed not only at the diagnostics and treatments but also at supplying some advice to create environmental enrichment to reduce disease burdens.
As well as encouraging field trials for various products Alan has been instrumental in passing knowledge to gamekeepers and rearers at various meetings throughout the year.
In 2018, he was welcomed onto the Board of Directors of The British Game Alliance, the official marketing board for game meat.
Alan’s combined interests in pathology and drinking has led him to several days shooting during the season.
